July of 2003, I laid in a hospital bed in New York. Doctors in the ICU were telling my family they were not sure what my chance of survival would be. After six days, I woke up from my coma and it was time to start my new life. With a broken orbital bone, crushed frontal lobe, severed optic nerve, broken finger and a slight sense of confusion, I started my climb back up to normalcy.
For years, my life went through ups and downs; overcoming emotional, mental and physical battles. When you have to go to outpatient therapy ten hours a week on top of forty hours at school, frustration sets in. But I was not ready to give up. People kept telling me that I was here for a reason; God has me here for a specific purpose. One evening during one of the most difficult nights my grandfather called to tell me, "Steven, you can do all things through Jesus Christ who gives you strength." And right at that moment, when I felt lifeless, my hope and faith in God and life was restored.
Many years have passed from the time of my accident and my view on life has completely taken a one-hundred and eighty degree twist. With all the brokenness in this world, I wanted to step up and make a change. No longer, would I sit back and allow the darkness, sadness, depression, doubt, and brokenness overwhelm the lives of the people around me.
Jesus said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
If we have Jesus living inside of us, we are the light into the lives of everyone we come across. I wanted to take that call and turn it into a lifestyle. Just as much as God came into my life during the darkest, most difficult times, I know He wants to do the same for everyone in this world. To love us unconditionally, repair our brokenness, comfort us in times of trouble, restore our hope, and to give us all eternal life through Jesus Christ. There are people in all of our lives who are in need of God's love; we could be the vessels of that love if we step up. From our friends and family, to the person living on the streets, to the coworker in our office, everyone truly seeks to be loved; this is where ATFCM comes in. We seek to spread love and encourage others to do the same.
We can be the change this world needs! God did not send Jesus to die for our sins so that the people of this world would continue living in despair; He came to restore life and bring us back to our true beautiful nature. Let us be the light in this world. Its about A Time For Change!
